Welcome to the astronomy section of "Out of This World." I chose my domain, cometchaser.com, because of my love of Astronomy. This page includes links to my favorite astronomy related sites (on the right), and some information about my astronomy interests.

The next time you find yourself in central Connecticut, bring your children to The Children's Museum of CT in West Hartford, CT. The Children's Museum Ignites Curiosity through Science and Nature. The Children's Museum is home to Connecticut's largest planetarium, the Gengras Planetarium. I volunteer at The Children's Museum, where I teach young visitors about the constellations and stars in the night sky by helping them to create star finders and create their own constellations with coloring activities. I also help children and their parents explore the night sky through the museum's telescopes, including their new 16" Dob.

The next time you are in Chicago (my favorite city), make sure you visit The Alder Planetarium & Astronomy Museum. The Adler is America's first planetarium, and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Between 1999 and 2002 I served as an education and telescope volunteer at the Adler. This position helped rekindle and fuel my passion for astronomy. As a volunteer I taught visitors to the museum about astronomy through interactive demonstrations and activities. My favorite demonstration (and the inspiration for my domain) was the "Create-A-Comet" demo, where I got to make the nucleus of a comet out of your average household items.

Telescope viewing is a fun activity for both visitors and volunteers. As a telescope volunteer I demonstrated the use of different types of telescopes for viewing stars, planets, the sun and occasionally buildings in the Chicago skyline (some days are cloudy). If you check out the Adler's web site, be sure to click on the Volunteer page, I'm the guy in red standing next to the telescope in the first picture.

My first telescope is an Orion SkyView Pro 127mm 5" Mak-Cassegrain. I always enjoyobserving the night sky. A sky chart is vital for observing, and Your Sky is a website that will let you customize a sky chart to your location and viewing preferences.
